We have been pretty diligent about our one full day a week out in the wild. Though I initially wanted to try a new place every week, most weeks we fall back on our beloved O'Neill Park in Trabuco Canyon. There are plenty of wildflowers, trees and scurrying creatures to identify and the girls always look forward to the picnic of "earth food" (usually berries, nuts, seeds, fruit, etc....)
Clare has gotten into the habit of taking what she calls a "snooze" after our meal. She lays her sweater, or whatever happens to be lying around--a dishtowel once--down and then quietly takes in the sights and sounds without talking or making any movement. Josephine and I have been following suit after Clare's example. Of course Clare doesn't always hold fast to her silence and stillness....see the hand sneaking in for just one more berry?
