Mornings

When I first walk down the stairs in the morning light, this is what I see. The summer sun is already streaming through the windows and illuminating the table. All the colors, the banner, the books, the cushions, are glowing with readiness for the day. I get a little excited, every morning. Just coming down the stairs and seeing this before me.

After I send Eric off with some breakfast and coffee, I sit down to this. Usually toast, always coffee, sometimes (if there are sniffles going around) an orange. I sit for thirty glorious minutes at the table and bask in the morning sun and steaming coffee. Clare joins me towards the end of the thirty minutes and quietly snuggles into our big Daddy Chair to kiss and caress the kitten while she wakes up.

While I'm doing my magnificat, Clare reads and colors. We hardly talk. Just be

Josephine pads out out of bed as the sun is almost above the first set of trees--the light soft and diffuse on the table, walls and floor. The first thing she wants is breakfast. Most mornings its cereal, hot or cold. With strawberries which always seem to be in season here. Our day slowly picks up pace.
I love this table, everything important seems to happen here.
