Pasta

I asked Clare if she would like some pasta.

She came skeptically into the kitchen.

"Uuuuuuuummmmmmmm. Is it Princess Pasta?"

(I roll my eyes. How can a daughter that is part of my flesh be so obsessed with princesses?)

"Yes, Clare. It IS princess pasta. Would you like some?"

"Yeah. (this is addressed to the cup in her hand which houses the mini Ariel mermaid doll residing currently in the glass of water Clare asked for 20 minutes ago:) "Mermaid, lets have some pasta!"

I put the pasta in a bowl and bring it to her table. She peers into the bowl.

"Its too tomato!" (the pasta is made with tomatoes and homemade ricotta)

"You don't have to eat the tomatoes, Clare. Just eat the pasta."

"Is it sad?" she peers in the bowl again, "tomatoes, are you sad? wanna go to a birthday party? ok, lets have birthday cake!"

(I walked away shaking my head....this kids imagination. seriously.)

I came back about ten minutes later to find (why oh why was my camera out of batteries?!?!?!!?):

Clare's tomatoes chunks lined up on the little wooden doll chairs with the birthday ring of candles before them. Clare was gone. So was the pasta.

I sighed and went to get the cleaner and a rag.....life with Clare is never dull.
